Itinerary Lares Trek 4 days: Indigenous Villages, Hot Springs & The Citadel
Day 1: Cusco (3,250 m) – Calca – Abra Amparaes (4,580 m) – Lares – Concani – Huacawasi (3,900 m)
Duration: 3 h transport / 4 h hike – 9 km
Weather: Warm during the day, cold at night
We depart early from Cusco toward Lares, passing through the charming villages of the Sacred Valley. We arrive in Concani to enjoy a countryside breakfast before beginning our hike. We ascend for about 1.5 hours to a natural viewpoint, then descend for 45 minutes through landscapes filled with lagoons and valleys.
We have lunch near a stream and continue for two more hours until reaching our first campsite in the village of Huacawasi. Here, our guide will introduce you to the customs and daily life of local families. The day ends with dinner under the Andean starry sky.

Day 2: Huacawasi – Abra Sacsallaulli (4,750 m) – Yurakcocha – Queunayoc – Yanahuara (3,600 m)
Duration: 7 h hike – 19 km
Weather: Warm during the day, cold at night
We wake up at 5:30 a.m. with a warm coca infusion. After breakfast, we begin a 3-hour ascent to the Sacsallaulli Pass (4,750 m). From the top, we enjoy panoramic views of glacial valleys, high-Andean lakes, snow-capped peaks, and herds of alpacas and llamas. With luck, we may spot condors.
After taking time to appreciate the scenery, we descend for 1 hour to a river where we have lunch. In the afternoon, we hike for 2 more hours through queñua forests until reaching our Yanahuara campsite. Temperatures are cold at night, so hot drinks are especially welcome.

Day 3: Yanahuara – Ollantaytambo (2,790 m) – Aguas Calientes (2,430 m)

After breakfast, we say goodbye to our cooks and muleteers. Our transport takes us to Ollantaytambo, where we visit the traditional village and its ancient Inca terraces.
Note: The archaeological site of Ollantaytambo is not included this day; the visit focuses on the town and its traditional district.

Day 4: Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco
Weather: Mild
We leave early to take one of the first buses (5:30 a.m.) to Machu Picchu. We begin a 3-hour guided tour exploring the urban, agricultural, and ceremonial areas: the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sun Dial, royal residences, and the Temple of the Three Windows.
Our visit follows the official circuits established by the Ministry of Culture. We always give preference to Circuits 1 and 2 for a more complete experience.
In the afternoon, we return to Cusco.
Optional Ascents:
• Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (USD 95): must be booked in advance.
Huayna Picchu: steep and not recommended for travelers with vertigo.
Machu Picchu Mountain: spectacular views; however, the regular visit is reduced to a short circuit.
