Departure from Cusco:
We start the day at 7:30 a.m., with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. You’ll travel in comfortable tourist transport with a professional guide who will accompany you throughout the tour.
First Stop: Chinchero
We arrive at the charming town of Chinchero, known for its traditional textiles and its colonial church built atop Inca walls. You’ll visit a textile workshop to learn about the ancestral process of natural dyeing and weaving. You'll also explore its archaeological site, featuring agricultural terraces and scenic views.
Second Stop: Maras

Why does the tour start with Chinchero?
Chinchero sits at 3,760m (12,300 ft), higher than Cusco. By visiting it first thing in the morning (around 8:00 AM), you explore the colonial church and the famous Inca walls before the large tourist buses arrive. Crucially, Chinchero is the capital of Andean weaving. You will visit a textile workshop here to see the "born-to-woven" process—how they use crushed insects (cochineal) to dye wool red and how they weave waterproof patterns—which provides the cultural context for the rest of the day.
Will I have to rush through Maras and Moray?
The pacing is brisk but managed. Because you aren't spending 2 hours at a buffet restaurant (see the lunch question below), you gain the time needed to properly explore these sites. You will descend into the concentric circles of Moray—the Inca agricultural laboratory—to feel the temperature difference between the terraces. Then, you head to the Maras Salt Mines, where you can walk along the edge of the 3,000+ salt pools that have been harvested since pre-Inca times.
What is the "Picnic Lunch" arrangement?
Instead of driving to a crowded restaurant in Urubamba and losing an hour or more, this tour includes a scenic picnic. The guide selects a spot with views of the snow-capped Veronica or Chicon glaciers, and you enjoy a fresh meal (sandwiches, fruits, local snacks) outdoors. Can I use this tour to get to Machu Picchu?
Yes, this is the most popular strategic move for smart travelers. The final major stop is Ollantaytambo, which is home to the train station. After exploring the massive fortress and the "living Inca city" in the afternoon, you can choose to be dropped off directly at the station for a late afternoon/evening train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) instead of taking the bus back to Cusco. This saves you a 2-hour return trip and puts you at the foot of the wonder for the next morning.
Which entrance tickets do I need?
You need to be careful here as it requires two different purchases. First, you need the Boleto Turístico (Tourist Ticket). If this is your only tour, a "Partial - Circuit III" ticket covers Chinchero, Moray, and Ollantaytambo. If you plan to visit other sites later, the "Full" ticket is better. Second, the Maras Salt Mines are owned by the local community, not the government, so they require a separate, small entrance fee (approx. 20 Soles) that must be paid in cash at the gate.
