Day 1: Cusco, the Navel of the World
Begin your adventure with a guided tour of Cusco, the former Inca capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit its majestic Cathedral, home to masterpieces of the Cusqueña School, and the Santo Domingo Monastery, built atop the famed Temple of the Sun (Qorikancha).
Outside the city, explore the four emblematic archaeological sites surrounding Cusco: Q’enqo, Tambomachay, Pukapukara, and the impressive fortress of Saqsayhuamán. Built with enormous interlocking stone blocks, this citadel overlooks Cusco and demonstrates the architectural genius of the Incas.

Day 2: Cusco – Sacred Valley of the Incas
Travel to the Sacred Valley, the true cradle of Inca civilization. Visit the archaeological complex of Pisac, with its terraces, observatories, and pre-Columbian cemetery. Enjoy time at the colorful handicraft market in the village.
Continue toward Ollantaytambo, a living museum from the 15th century, home to an imposing Inca fortress. After exploring its narrow stone streets, board the scenic train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.

Day 3: Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas
At dawn, aboard the shuttle bus to Machu Picchu. Surrounded by towering peaks, the citadel reveals its royal quarters, agricultural terraces, and ceremonial observatories in a mystical atmosphere—one of the great highlights of any trip to Peru.
In the afternoon, return to Aguas Calientes, then take the train back to Ollantaytambo, where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Maras – Moray – Chinchero – Cusco

Continue to Chinchero, known as the “City of the Rainbow,” renowned for its living traditions, weaving workshops, and well-preserved Inca ruins. Return to Cusco in the late afternoon.

Day 5: Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain

From its viewpoints, take in extraordinary vistas of the Ausangate massif and explore the intriguing Stone Forest—an authentic and peaceful alternative to the more crowded Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain.
Enjoy a buffet lunch in Cusipata before returning to Cusco.

Altitude
Cusco sits at 3,400 m (11,150 ft). We recommend arriving 1–2 days before the tour begins to acclimatize. Stay hydrated throughout the day. Coca tea, a traditional Andean infusion, can also help with altitude adjustment.
Physical Condition
This itinerary includes cultural visits and short, easy hikes suitable for most travelers. The Palccoyo day is more demanding due to the altitude but remains accessible to anyone in good general condition.

What makes the Palccoyo Trek a better alternative to Vinicunca?
While Vinicunca is the most famous Rainbow Mountain, Palccoyo is a fantastic alternative for those who prefer fewer crowds and a less strenuous hike. Instead of just one peak, Palccoyo offers views of three distinct multi-colored mountains. The hike is much flatter and shorter (about 45–60 minutes), making it accessible to a wider range of travelers while still reaching an impressive altitude and offering views of the massive Ausangate glacier.
Will I have enough time to explore the ruins of Machu Picchu?
Yes! On Day 3, you will take the shuttle bus up to the citadel at dawn to experience the "Lost City of the Incas" in its most mystical morning light. You will have a comprehensive 2.5-hour guided tour of the main sectors, including the temples, residential areas, and agricultural terraces. This ensures you understand the historical and spiritual significance of the site without feeling rushed.
What is the significance of the "Inca Laboratory" at Moray?
On Day 4, we visit Moray, one of the most intriguing archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley. These massive circular terraces were actually an agricultural research station. Each level has a different micro-climate, with temperature variations of up to $15°C$ from top to bottom. The Incas used this "laboratory" to test which crops could grow at different altitudes throughout their vast empire.
