The journey begins with a scenic boat trip from Puno, leading to a warm welcome from your host family, with whom you will share traditional homemade meals and evening conversations about the Andean worldview and the spiritual significance of the Apus (mountain deities). Frequently Asked Questions Deep Titicaca 3-days: Farming, Fishing & Weaving in Llachon

What makes the Llachón homestay experience different from other Lake Titicaca tours?

While many Lake Titicaca tours only offer brief visits to heavily transited islands, this 3-day itinerary focuses on deep cultural immersion. You will stay with a welcoming Quechua host family in the peaceful, off-the-beaten-path community of Llachón on the Capachica Peninsula. Instead of just observing, you will actively participate in their daily life, sharing homemade meals, engaging in seasonal farming or fishing, and learning about the Andean worldview firsthand.

What kind of hands-on activities will I participate in?

Day 2 is entirely dedicated to experiential learning! Depending on the season and your host family's needs, you will participate in authentic, rotating activities. This might include traditional net fishing on the lake, learning the ancient process of dyeing and weaving sheep or alpaca wool, or engaging in seasonal agricultural work like planting or harvesting quinoa and potatoes using traditional methods.

What is the accommodation like in Llachón?

You will experience authentic rural living during your stay. You will sleep in a local family’s home in a private, rustic room with a shared bathroom. The accommodations are simple but clean, cozy, and rich in hospitality. The quiet nights by the lake are incredibly peaceful, offering a perfect environment to disconnect and reflect on your cultural experiences.

Are meals included, and what kind of food will we eat?

Yes! Your meals (2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners) are included. The culinary experience is a highlight, as you will share meals prepared by your host family using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Expect hearty, traditional Andean dishes featuring quinoa, native potatoes, fresh lake trout, beans, and corn, often accompanied by homemade bread and soothing Andean herbal teas.

Will we visit any other islands on Lake Titicaca?

Yes! On Day 3, we bid farewell to our host family in Llachón and set sail for the famous Taquile Island. Taquile is globally renowned for its extraordinary textile art, which is so unique and culturally significant that it has been declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. We will take a gentle walk to the main plaza, learn about their community organization, and enjoy a traditional lunch of fresh trout overlooking the lake before returning to Puno.

Do I need to worry about the altitude on this tour?

Lake Titicaca is located at a high altitude of 3,810 meters (12,500 feet) above sea level. We highly recommend spending at least one or two days acclimatizing in Cusco, Puno, or Arequipa before beginning this tour. Once in Llachón, we suggest walking slowly, staying well-hydrated, and drinking traditional mate de coca (coca tea), which we provide, to help prevent altitude sickness.
