Do I need experience to go sandboarding?
Not at all! No prior experience is required. Most travelers choose to sandboard "belly-style" (lying face down on the board), which is the safest and easiest way to enjoy the long, smooth descents of the dunes. For those with more experience, you can try standing up, but your guide will provide all the necessary instructions and wax for your board to ensure a smooth ride.
What happens during the Pisco tasting part of the tour?
You will visit a traditional artisanal vineyard in the Ica Valley, the birthplace of Peru's national spirit. You’ll get a guided tour of the distillery to see how Pisco is made from grape to bottle using centuries-old techniques. Afterward, you’ll enjoy a guided tasting session where you can sample different varieties of Pisco, as well as local sweet wines and crema de pisco.
What is the best time of day for the dune buggy tour?
While we offer various departure times, the late afternoon (sunset) tour is highly recommended. Not only is the temperature cooler, but you will also stop at a high point in the dunes to witness the sun dipping below the horizon. The way the golden light hits the dunes and the Huacachina lagoon is a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity.
What should I pack for a full day in the Ica desert?
To ensure you stay comfortable in the desert heat and sand, we recommend: Footwear: Wear sneakers or closed shoes (sandals are difficult to walk in on the dunes and for sandboarding). Clothing: Light, breathable clothes for the day and a light jacket for the return trip, as it can get windy. Protection: High-SPF sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses (essential to keep sand out of your eyes during the buggy ride). Extras: A small backpack, a reusable water bottle, and your camera or phone with a protective case to keep the sand out.
