Description: del Lake Titicaca 2-Day Tour: Uros, Amantani Homestay & Taquile

Immerse yourself in a profound and authentic experience on Lake Titicaca and Amantani, the highest navigable lake in the world. This two-day trip invites you to experience the magic of the indigenous people who inhabit these islands, far from mass tourism and close to the human essence that has kept this ancient culture alive .

Unlike traditional tours, here you won’t just visit the sites: you’ll live with a local family in Amantani , sharing their customs, their food, and their way of life. You’ll walk pre-Incan trails, weave with your hands, hear ancient stories, and sleep under a starry sky that seems to touch the lake.

This is a journey of connection, silence, and respect, where the lake is not just a stage, but a sacred space that invites reflection, encounter, and gratitude. An experience that will leave a deep mark and an indelible memory.

Itinerary Lake Titicaca 2-Day Tour: Uros, Amantani Homestay & Taquile

Day 1: Puno – Uros – Amantaní (Coexistence)

7:30am – Pick up at hotel (Puno)

Our local guide will pick you up at your hotel and accompany you to the port of Puno, where we will board a traditional boat equipped to navigate the waters of Lake Titicaca.

8:00 am – Sailing to the Uros Islands

We begin the journey to the Uros Islands, handcrafted from totora reeds, an aquatic plant that grows in the lake. During the journey, your guide will tell you about the history, geography, and worldview of the sacred lake.

Visit to the Uros Islands

We arrive at a floating island, where you’ll be welcomed by the Uros, a community that has lived on the water for centuries. Here you’ll learn:

  • How islands are built: the ancient process of cutting, drying, and weaving totora reeds

  • How the Uros live: houses, schools, boats, all made of totora reeds

  • Their language and customs: oral traditions, music, and crafts

  • Totora boat demonstration: optional ride on traditional boats (not included)

  • The Uros are a resilient culture that has adapted their lives to the lake. Their ancestral knowledge of the totora reed is key to their survival.

9:30 am – Sailing to Amantani

We continue the journey to Amantaní Island, a natural rocky island home to a Quechua community deeply connected to the land and the lake. The cruise lasts approximately two hours, during which time you can enjoy the scenery, take photos, and relax.

12:00 pm – Arrival and welcome

Upon arrival in Amantaní, you’ll be welcomed by your host family, who will escort you to their home and introduce you to their way of life. The island is known for its tranquility, hospitality, and spiritual connection to Pachamama.

Homemade lunch

You will enjoy a traditional lunch prepared with local ingredients:

  • Quinoa, potatoes, trout, beans, corn

  • Andean herbal tea

  • Homemade bread

Afternoon of walking and rituals

In the afternoon, we’ll take a guided hike to the pre-Incan temples of Pachamama and Pachatata, two sacred hills that offer panoramic views of the lake and the sunset. Here you’ll be able to:

  • Participate in an offering ritual to Pachamama (optional)

  • Meditate or simply enjoy the sacred silence

  • Taking pictures of the lake at sunset

  • Dinner and overnight stay at a local home

  • Shared dinner with the host family. Accommodation in a rustic private room with a shared bathroom. The evening is peaceful, ideal for resting and connecting with the local energy.

9:00 am – Walk to the village

We’ll take a gentle hike of approximately 30-40 minutes to the main village. The trail is scenic, with panoramic views of the lake and the Altiplano mountains.

Frequently Asked Questions Lake Titicaca 2-Day Tour: Uros, Amantani Homestay & Taquile

What makes the 2-day Amantani homestay better than a full-day tour?

A full-day tour only offers a glimpse of the lake. The 2-day experience allows you to slow down and truly connect with the "living culture" of the Andes. By staying overnight on Amantani Island, you get to witness a spectacular sunset from the Pachatata temple, enjoy a traditional dinner with a local family, and participate in a community dance celebration—experiences that are simply impossible on a 1-day trip.

What is the accommodation like on Amantani Island?

The accommodation is an authentic homestay in a local family home. Rooms are rustic, clean, and cozy, featuring comfortable beds with plenty of warm Andean blankets. While facilities are basic (usually shared bathrooms and no hot water or Wi-Fi), the warmth of the host families and the opportunity for genuine cultural exchange make this the most memorable part of the journey.

Will I be able to see the famous "weaving men" of Taquile?

Yes! On Day 2, we visit Taquile Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site recognized for its masterful textile art. Unlike most cultures, on Taquile, it is the men who do the knitting! You will see them expertly crafting high-quality garments and learn how their intricate patterns signify their social status and community history.

What kind of food is served during the homestay?

You will enjoy traditional high-plateau cuisine prepared fresh by your host family. Meals typically include nutritious Andean staples like quinoa soup, local potatoes, fresh lake trout, and muña (Andean mint) tea. Most dietary requirements (vegetarian, gluten-free) can be accommodated if you inform us in advance, as the local diet is naturally centered around fresh grains and vegetables.

How much hiking is involved in this 2-day tour?

The physical demand is considered easy to moderate. There are short uphill walks to reach the village centers and the ceremonial temples of Pachatata and Pachamama on Amantani. Because Lake Titicaca is at 3,812 meters (12,507 feet), these walks can feel more tiring than usual. We recommend walking at a steady, slow pace and staying well-hydrated.

What should I pack for an overnight stay on the islands?

Since you will be traveling by motorboat, it is best to bring a small daypack and leave your large luggage at your hotel in Puno. Essential items include: Warm layers: Temperatures drop significantly at night and in the early morning. Sun protection: High-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat (the sun is very strong on the water). Cash (Soles): For small purchases like handicrafts, snacks, or the optional reed boat ride in Uros. Power Bank: Electricity can be limited or unavailable in some island homes.
