Itinerary The Best of Lima in Half a Day: Ruins, History & Pisco

Starting at 8:30 am, we will begin our experience with pickup from hotels located in San Isidro and later in Miraflores , two of Lima’s most elegant and contemporary districts.

Our first stop will be the iconic Parque del Amor , located in front of the majestic cliffs of the Miraflores boardwalk. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and admire the sculpture «El Beso,» a symbol of Lima’s romanticism and a meeting point for travelers and locals.

We’ll continue our tour to Huaca Pucllana , an ancient ceremonial and administrative center of the Lima culture (c. 500 AD). From outside, our guide will give you a detailed explanation of this impressive pre-Incan archaeological site, which is strikingly located in the middle of the modern city.

Afterwards, we’ll head to the historic heart of the capital: Downtown Lima, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Here, we’ll begin a guided walk to discover the most iconic monuments from the colonial era:

  • The Lima Cathedral, a masterpiece of religious architecture.

  • The Government Palace, presidential headquarters.

  • The Municipal Palace and the Archbishopric, witnesses of colonial Lima.

  • The Church and Convent of San Francisco, where we’ll take a guided tour of its famous catacombs, an underground system that holds remains and legends from the past.

To conclude this Peruvian-inspired experience, we’ll take part in a brief but fun demonstration class and tasting of pisco sour , our national drink, in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Around 12:00 pm, we will board our return transportation, arriving at the hotels at approximately 1:00 pm , with a new perspective on Lima: modern and ancient at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions The Best of Lima in Half a Day: Ruins, History & Pisco

What makes this "Best of Lima" tour different from a standard city tour?

Most city tours only focus on the colonial center. Our "Best of Lima" itinerary is a comprehensive chronological journey. You will explore Huaca Pucllana, a massive pre-Inca pyramid made of millions of adobe bricks, before heading to the Historic Center to see Lima’s Spanish colonial legacy, and finally ending with a refreshing Pisco experience in the modern coastal districts.

Is a guided tour of the Huaca Pucllana ruins included?

Yes! You won't just see the pyramid from the outside. You will have a guided tour of the Huaca Pucllana archaeological site, which dates back to 500 AD. Your guide will explain how the ancient Lima Culture used "the book technique" to build earthquake-resistant walls and show you the ceremonial plazas where rituals were performed long before the Incas arrived.

What are the main colonial landmarks we visit in the Historic Center?

We take you to the heart of the "City of Kings," a UNESCO World Heritage site. Key stops include the Plaza Mayor (Main Square), where you’ll see the Government Palace, the Cathedral of Lima, and the Archbishop’s Palace. We also visit the San Francisco Convent, famous for its stunning library and its mysterious underground catacombs that served as Lima's first cemetery.

Does the tour include a Pisco tasting?

Yes, it does! To celebrate Lima’s status as the gastronomic capital of the Americas, the tour includes a Pisco Sour demonstration and tasting. You will learn the history of our national spirit and see how the perfect Pisco Sour is made—balancing Pisco, lime juice, simple syrup, and egg whites—before enjoying a glass yourself.

Is this tour suitable for people with limited time or on a layover?

Absolutely. At just 4 to 4.5 hours, this tour is specifically designed for travelers with tight schedules, such as those arriving on a morning flight or departing in the evening. We provide door-to-door transportation from your hotel in Miraflores or San Isidro, ensuring you see Lima’s most essential sights without feeling rushed.

What should I wear and bring for a half-day in Lima?

Lima's weather can be unpredictable due to its coastal location. We recommend: Comfortable walking shoes: You will be walking on uneven stone paths and ancient ruins. Layers: A light jacket is useful, as it can be breezy by the ocean but warm in the city center. Sun protection: Even on cloudy days, the UV index in Lima is very high. Bring sunscreen and a hat. Camera/Phone: You'll want to capture the contrast between the 1,500-year-old adobe pyramid and the modern skyscrapers surrounding it!
