Frequently Asked Questions Peru Multisport 13 Days: Sandboarding, Hiking & Kayaking
What makes this "Multisport" itinerary unique?
Most Peru tours focus on history first and activity second. This trip flips that script. Over 13 days, you will use four different modes of movement: sandboarding on coastal dunes, kayaking on the world's highest lake, mountain biking through the Sacred Valley, and hiking the original paths of the Incas. It’s a 360-degree physical engagement with the country.
How does the adventure start on the coast (Day 2)?
You head straight to the Oasis of Huacachina in Ica. This isn't a quiet desert stroll; you’ll board a high-powered 4x4 sandbuggy to roar over massive dunes. Then, you’ll strap on a board to sandboard down the slopes. It’s a thrilling introduction to Peru’s desert before you even see a single Andean peak.
What is the kayaking experience on Lake Titicaca (Day 6)?
Instead of just taking a motorized tourist boat, you’ll take to the water in a kayak. Paddling through the totora reed channels toward the Uros Floating Islands allows for a silent, intimate connection with the lake. You’ll feel the scale of the "Highest Navigable Lake in the World" through the strength of your own arms.
Is there mountain biking involved?
Yes! Usually during the exploration of the Sacred Valley (Days 8–9). One of the most exhilarating segments involves cycling from the heights of the Andes down toward the salt pans of Maras. It’s a downhill-heavy route that offers spectacular views of the Urubamba mountain range without requiring professional-level cycling skills.
How does the hiking portion work?
The "Multisport" aspect culminates in the trek to Machu Picchu. Depending on the specific seasonal route, you might tackle the Short Inca Trail or the Lares Trek. These routes are chosen because they offer a higher physical challenge and more spectacular "wild" scenery compared to just taking the train.
Do I need to be an elite athlete for this trip?
You don't need to be a pro, but you should have a moderate to high fitness level. You’ll be active almost every day, often at high altitudes (above 3,500m / 11,500 ft). The most important trait is "stamina"—the ability to keep going for several hours of light-to-moderate exertion across different sports.
How is the equipment handled?
Terres des Incas provides all technical gear—professional kayaks, life jackets, mountain bikes, helmets, and sandboards. You only need to bring your personal activewear: good hiking boots, moisture-wicking clothes, and a sturdy daypack. They handle the heavy lifting, so you can focus on the sport.
Who is the ideal traveler for this 13-day multisport tour?
This is for the restless traveler. If the idea of a 4-hour bus tour makes you bored, but the idea of paddling a kayak at 3,800 meters or biking past Inca ruins makes your heart race, this is for you. It’s perfect for active couples, solo adventurers, and families with teenagers who want a "high-participation" vacation.
